ONE LAST HOORAH

Mary Knowlden • Johnson City , TN

My son and I visited your resort June 15-19, 2009. We've not had an easy life. In a five year period from 1995 to 2000, I lost my brother, my father, my mother, and then, quite unexpectedly, my husband. Our son was only 9 years old. We had lived in Charleston, SC,  but had to move to Johnson City, TN,  to live with my sister, my only surviving family member. I got a job and we were able to move into our own place in 2004. We took our first vacation in 2008 to your Beach Cove property and this year, we came back to Sea Watch to celebrate my son's recent high school graduation and 18th birthday because in two weeks he begins basic training at Fort Jackson. He enlisted last year through the future soldier's program in the Army Reserves. To be honest, my son struggled in school. He had a hard time growing up without his dad. However, he now hopes to attend college through Army ROTC and get a degree in education so he can be a helpful influence in another boy's life just like the retired Colonel who mentored him in his high school JROTC program. We came to Sea Watch because I knew it would be a place where I could spend some quality time with my son. It was also a place where I felt safe to let him have his time to be eighteen. Of course, I was still keeping my maternal eyes on him but it was so reassuring to see him be welcomed by others and making new friends. Props to the pool party at North Tower with the DJ--it was fun and family oriented for ALL ages!  Our particular condominium unit was incredible--our view was right on top of the beach, everything worked as it should, the beds were so comfy, the housecleaners were so nice, the staff bent over backwards to help my son hook up his XBOX, my raves could go on and on. Bottom line, this is a great place for teens and kids of all ages. I wanted something all inclusive and this came pretty darn close because even though I had planned to pay for tickets to this and to that and even though I had planned for us to eat out a few times, we ended up going out only once--and that was for groceries --we just did not want to leave! Translation: my teenage son never once said he was bored, never once complained, never once said he rather be anywhere but here. My teenage son was having a good time and not afraid to show it even to me! THANK YOU SEA WATCH. My mission was to make memories for my boy and me on what will be our very last vacation together before I hand him over to the United States Military to turn him into the best man he can be. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED and I look forward to coming back next year with my soldier on his 19th birthday when we will be celebrating his upcoming entrance to college as a future officer and future teacher.
