Memories
Mother/daughter reunion
Martha Dorris • Ashburn, VA
I am a single mother of a 20-year old Old Dominion University college student. Alex and I have always had a very close relationship. We also work extremely hard to and take our respective responsibilities seriously. She worked all summer as an intern for a company in Norfolk where she attends college and I am responsible for providing information to citizens through multiple channels including the Internet, telephone, publications and social media channels like Facebook and YouTube. We haven't been able to spend very much time together this summer but last week we spent a glorious week at the SeaWatch where we talked and laughed and spent precious time together. We enjoyed the pools, hot tubs, ice cream shop and the fabulous beach/ocean. It wasn't a European vacation, a Caribbean getaway or a Hawaiian luau but it was one of our best vacations ever - it was peaceful and provided the venue for a mother and daughter to reconnect before she starts into her third year of college and I return to work to a new boss. These are memories that will last a lifetime.
