Last Family Trip
Brittany Fine • Elizabethton, TN
My family and I had started going to the beach almost every year since I was a little girl. We started staying at the Sea Watch in 2000. We always had a great time when we stayed there. The staff and everybody was so nice and we haven't stayed anywhere since. My father loved the beach and it was always one of the places he was happiest. In the year 2005 my father was diagnosed with cancer, a brain tumor. He had a rough time for throughout his illness, however he was bound and determined he was going to make it back to the beach and stay at the Sea Watch one more time. It was a miracle because he was in and out of the hospital every other week with something different along with the tumor but when time came for the beach, he felt the best he had in a long time, never got sick once while he was there. He was in a wheelchair at the time. But we made the most of it. My mom, sister and I would push him on the beach. Then I of course knowing how bad he wanted to be able to get in the ocean pushed him down as far as i could without him falling over. Some friends of the family stay at Sea Watch also. They came a couple days later to be with him. Even though he was a restricted in what he could do, I believe he had one of the best times because he was with his family. His name was John Fine and he passed away in February 2007. It was our last family vacation but his memory lives on in all of us and those who have met him. I am so thankful for having the chance to go to the beach one last time with him. He was one of the most wonderful men, not just because he was my father. He was the most giving, caring and intelligent man I knew and all that knew him felt the same. I havn't been able to return to the beach yet without him, however I know he would still want me to enjoy the beach like he did every time he went. I have been checking out prices and consider returning this year because my job allows me time end of july-August to do so. It would be wonderful to be able to return to Sea Watch where my dad and family and friends were so welcomed and had so much fun. Thank you for your time and generosity now and for those who were there who helped my father enjoy his time there in 2007.
