I had the pleasure of attending BeatleMania on Friday evening at the Carolina Opry.  From the moment you walk in you feel welcomed by their staff.  We entered the theatre and found 4 very talented performers.  It was almost like the original Beatles were right there on stage.  While they performed several of the songs that the Beatles were famous for, black and white clips played in the background showing scenes of Beatle fans "screaming" and "crying" over their chance to hear the Beatles perform in concert.  They also included clips of Martin Luther King and Robert Kennedy walking the streets and meeting people as they often did.  Then in between sets while they changed costumes, they showed black and white commercials which included G.I Joe, Barbie and Ken, and Rock'em Sock'em Robots!  I chuckled when the commercial offered Barbie and Ken outfits anywhere from 80 cents to $1.40.  (Boy, what a differece from the prices now!)  Then I laughed at my husband when he said Oh, I remember those robots, I used to play with them.  How many of you remember these toys - Be honest now... smile.

To finish off the show,  the performers asked everyone to stand and sing different parts of "Hey Jude".  All the guests happily participated.  I just stood there watching everyone in amazement to see how involved everyone was in this show.  Some couples stood there singing while others grabbed their partner, held them tight and danced.  At one point many just swayed back and forth to the music.  There were a few guests who held their lighters high up in the air with the flame glowing through the darkness.  It was a wonderful way to end this show.  You could definitely tell that this performance brought back many memories to some of those couples and created new memories for others.

This show was definetly one to be seen and  I am happy that I took the time to go see it.

Tonight I am going to watch the BeatleMania Show being held at the Carolina Opry which is only moments away from Sea Watch Resort !   I am really excited, although I was born EARLY in the 60's my mom of course raised me with oldies on the radio all the time so I enjoy the music very much.  I think in a week or so I will go see the Lazer Light Show also being held in the Carolina Opry.  I saw the Good Vibrations Show last year which is 60, 70's and 80's music and that was fantastic.

I really helps working so close to all these shows because I can work my day and still get out in time to make to it the shows!  Stay tunes because tomorrow I will return to to blog about the show.

I am sitting in my office this morning thinking about all the activities that take place on property at Sea Watch Resort and how close we are to all the great attractions.  It really is a great location!  We are oceanfront so we get to see the beautiful beach.  We have the BEST guests in town!!!  We offer pool side activities such as the DJ every Tuesday and Thursday from 12:00 noon to 4:00 Pm and now the DJ comes back on Sunday evenings for Pool side Karaoke from 6:00 Pm to 10:00 Pm.  We have children's activities that take place right on property.  A few activities to mention are the  Henna tattoos, hair braiding, turtle races, Bingo, water aerobics and Build - a - Beach Candle.  Families seem to LOVE the Children's Activities as well as the kids!  We have our Oceanfront restaurant - Captain's Cove which is open every morning from 7:00 am to 11:00 am for breakfast.  They have a wonderful  "All You Can Eat" breakfast buffett which includes a waffle and omelet station. (If you like strawberries and whip cream, my personal favorite is waffle topped with strawberries and whip cream drizzled with strawberry sauce, YUM YUM)  When I walk through the lobby area with this master piece, guest stop and stare!  Then head for the Waffle line...   Then the staff set up for lunch with a great selection (again my personal favorite is the Philly Cheese Steak Hoagie with peppers and onions)

Then we have Captain's Nook - Our Ice Cream and Coffee shop - Coffee, Ice Cream, Shakes, Banana Boat Sundaes - Need I say more???   Then right across the way we have our fitness room and game room.  We have a Gift shop in the South tower for anything you may have forgotten to bring or in case you want a souvenir.

We are off of Restaurant Row where you can locate an array of food, from Steaks to Sea Food.  From sit down relaxing dinners to fast food places such as Steak and Shake.

We are minutes from Broadway at the Beach, Barefoot Landing, Tanger Outlets, and many of the NEW attractions such as Pirates Voyage, Sky Wheel, WonderWorks, and Legends in concert.

All I can say is that if I was still a tourist rather than a local now, this is where I would want to stay.

Most people that live in Myrtle Beach are from some where else in the United States.   I am originally from North Carolina and moved here almost 11 years ago.  Like most, I moved here because I fell in love with the area from coming down for vacation with friends and family.  Unfortunately, once you move here, you find a job, start working everyday and forget why you moved here in the first place. Then many years later you realize you haven't been to the beach in years as I did. So I made a promise to myself that this year would be different. Every weekend during the summer I plan to do something different, so I became a tourist again on weekends. You may have already read some of my earlier blogs. I have been to Legends in Concert, Pirates Voyage, Myrtle Beach State Park, and on a Helicopter ride. Well this weekend I had the pleasure of going to see the Good Vibrations show and the Laser Light Show at the Carolina Opry. At the beginning of the Good Vibtrations show,  they pulled 3 members of the audience up to the stage and asked them some trivia questions.  A friend that was with me was one of the chosen people. Carolina Opry gave each person 2 free tickets. Maybe this will inspire him to become a weekend tourist also!!  The music was from the 60's, 70's, and 80's. There were great costumes, singers and very talented dancers.  My favorite was the 4 tap dancers. They were awesome!!  They even had the Village People singing YMCA, which everyone joined in. They had a few comedy acts mixed in, which was absolutely fabulous. After the Good Vibration show was over we stayed to watch the Laser show. I will tell you this is the show I have been waiting to see. The night I went they featured the music from U2. (They also have different music during the month.)  During the Good Vibration show they give you a small sample of what to expect. But trust me when I tell you it was just a sample!! It reminded me of watching fireworks with music instead of all the "bangs" and "pows" and you add all the oooohs and awwws!! It was almost like 3D as the lights moved!! I got lost in the moment watching the lights as they danced above my head.  It was like moving through time as the lights changed colors. I just laid my head back and went on a magical musical journey with the light show.  It was definitely worth the experience!

Last night we had our very 1st Sunday Sea Watch Karaoke Party!!!   It went very well.  There were plenty of smiling faces as guests sang their hearts out to their music selection.  Some of our guest decided to just sit back and listen to the music and watch the performances, while others were more daring as they took the mike in handle and sang.  There were families enjoying the pool while others sat back with their kids and ate ice cream from the Captain's Nook Ice Cream and Coffee Shop.  We were offering a special on pizza which was $10.00 for a large cheese pizza and many took advantage of the pizza deal.  The Tiki bar was open to serve anyone who was thirsty serving a variety of drink.  We look forward to many more Karaoke nights and can not wait to hear all the voices that are willing to share their voice with everyone.

The Captain’s Cove Café at The Sea Watch Resort’s staff visited the New Pirates Voyage Fun Feast and Adventure located in Myrtle Beach Sc.  The staff at the Sea Watch Resort’s Food and Beverage experienced the New Breath taking dinner Show on Sunday June 5, 2011 at 8:00 pm.  My son and I had front row tickets to the new event the other staff members with my wife were seated in other areas of the arena.  We entered the building at approximately 6:30 pm to the pre function area which we had popcorn, nacho’s with cheese and frozen tropical drinks.  We were entertained by several of the cast members which were dressed up like Pirates.  We entered arena and were entertained by a buccaneer battle with a five course Pirate Feast which included:

Voyager Creamy Vegetable Soup, Buccaneer Bread, Half O’ Roasted Cackler (chicken), BBQ Pork Shank, Crispy Fried Shrimp, Cob O’ Buttery Corn, Mashed & Flogged Taters and Apple O’ Me Eye Pie

My son and I who were dressed up like a young buccaneer were asked to be in the show.  This was a kid’s dream come true.  He was to board one of the small vessels in Buccaneer Bay and participate in a race where I pulled him across the bay, as the crowds cheered my team mate and I pulled, pulled and pulled on a wet slippery rope to come up short by about eight feet.  I didn’t realize we were outnumbered two to four, but the staff made all of us feel like winners and presented my son and his shipmate a Pirates Voyage medal.  Maybe one day we can return again and enjoy the wonderful food and next time we may win the challenge.

This past week I got to experience WonderWorks at Broadway at the Beach.  It was awsome!!!  From the outside the building looks like everything is upside down.  It is great fun for kids, teens and adults.  There were so many things to do such as design and ride in your own virtual roller  coaster, dance in the Disco room, and test your mind with video games  You can also climb the rope course, fly a shuttle into space and so much more.  It is defintely hours of pure fun.  We had a blast!

Out of all the fun and exciting things to do in Myrtle Beach for my Birthday I chose to do something out of the ordinary and completely out of my comfort zone. I made a trip to Huffman Helicopter Tours at the North Myrtle beach Air Port. It’s only a few miles away from Sea Watch Resort on 33rd Ave South.

I was greeted by Tylar Proveaux the Sales Manager at that location. He explained in detail all the tours and prices and even introduced me to the pilot Riley Troy.  Both guys were super nice and a lot of fun to talk to. After filling out the necessary paper work and going over the safety rules we jumped on the golf cart and rode out to the helicopter where pilot Riley was waiting, ready to fly us up into the sky at 1000 feet off the deck (that’s a flying term for how far off the ground as I would say)

I am really scared of heights, so not only was I nervous and scared, I was also excited about trying something so new and different. Both Tylar and Riley assured me it would be fun and I would not even think about how high I was. They were absolutely right! We left the airport in a smooth, gentle lift and we were off, flying above the tree tops before I knew it. From the air I could see as far as the Cherry Grove pier and beyond. As we circled around going more toward the ocean all the people on the beach looked like little dots sprinkled on the shore. We flew over the ocean and Riley pointed out stingrays in the water as we got closer to Apache Pier and Sea Watch Resort. Then we circled around and flew over Barefoot Landing.

It was one of the most exciting adventures I have been on in Myrtle Beach!! As we landed back at the airport,  Riley sat the helicopter down so easy it was as if we landed on a feather down pillow. I fully intend on returning with friends and family to take another tour. The prices were great starting out at only $20.00 per person. The helicopter holds 3 passengers and the pilot. You can take longer tours which I highly recommend!! Don’t just settle for the short ride or you will find yourself wishing you would have taking the longest one possible as I did!! I send out my thanks to Tylar, Riley, and Huffman Helicopters for the best and most unforgettable Birthday EVER!

Memorial weekend in Myrtle Beach this year was wonderful.  There was all sorts of activities going on throughout Myrtle Beach!  Of course there was the Atlantic Bike Festival, the Memorial Day Parade, and concerts with special guest's appearences.  People were everywhere, walking Ocean Blvd, driving their bikes and cars, swimming at the beach, and enjoying all the festivites.  You could see visitors and locals alike enjoying the boadwalk and the new attractions such as WonderWorks and the SkyWheel.  Restaurants and stores were busy with visitors dining out and shopping.  The young children appeared to be having so much fun, especially when they were walking through Family Kingdom where you could see all the rides.  As a local it was wonderful to see everyone.  It is just the start of the great summer to come.
