In June 2011 Dixie Stampede Myrtle Beach Transforms into Pirates Voyage! The new adventure attraction will feature a buccaneer battle with a pirate feast and will receive over $11 million in production upgrades. Guests will experience the spirit and swashbuckling excitement of the pirates who called the Carolina Coast home. The Crimson and Sapphire pirates will battle each other on deck, in the water and in the sky above their full sized pirate ships in a 15-foot deep indoor lagoon. Audience members will cheer them on to see who will take the treasure.
Zumba seems to be all the new rage in working out and I have to tell you from personal experience….it ROCKS! Zumba is an easy to follow, Latin inspired, calorie-burning dance fitness party that is perfect for everyone. I have absolutely no rhythm at all and two left feet to boot so I was very apprehensive to try it out. I finally found the courage and it was the best thing I could have ever done. I truly look forward to my Monday and Wednesday nights! I take classes at the North Strand Park which is one of many Horry County Parks in our area. There are several classes to choose from and they have two amazing instructors (Ms. Patty and Ms. Denise)! The best thing is that if you are here on vacation for the week and want to try it, they will let you come and join them for a class for just $5 a class! I am telling you…you will be HOOKED!

Last night I had to take a drive to see the light show I read about in the articles regarding the new Sky Wheel in Myrtle Beach on Ocean Blvd. I was amazed to see that they were correct. The LIGHT SHOW was fabulous!!! The Sky Wheel could be seen from blocks away and the lights reflected off area buildings. It was definitely worth the drive just to see the array of colorful lights as they changed colors and designs. At one point it even blinked RED, WHITE, and BLUE. Next week I will be riding this wonderful new attraction. It stands 175 feet in the air where you can overlook the ocean and surrounding area. It has 42 enclosed gondulas that have air conditioning for the warmer months and will be heated for the chiller months. The gondulas have built with non-reflected glass to provide for better picture or video taking of the beautiful landscape and ocean. They even have a VIP gondula with bucket seating! The gondulas are also handi-capped accessible. Prices are $12.00 for adults and $8.00 for children 3 to 11 years old. I read that they even have a senior and military discount.
I don't know about you but I can not wait to experience it and if heights is not your cup of coffee, then just go for the light show!

For the last 6 years my family and I have enjoyed the foot stomping, chicken eating, finger licking good times at Dixie Stampede. I got to watch my children grow through the Dixie themed family photos we had taken at their on-site photo shop. I got to see my brother Al play horse shoes with toilet seats. I got to watch magic shows, horse shows and eat a fantastic meal, all in the same night. And, how could I forget the first time my family and I went to the show, there were no utensils. We ate with our hands and loved every minute of it. When you arrived at Dixie Stampede the building welcomed you with a down home country look to it and the gazebos and columns added to the architecture. The staff dressed in elegant dresses. The horse stables were around the side of the building so you could always go see if your favorite horse was out resting. There was also a gift shop where you could purchase souvenirs or even a bag of the wonderful "creamy vegetable soup they servced as part of their meal!
But at last the building and atmosphere has changed. From cowboys and Indians to pirates and treasures. I couldn't help feel sad when I drove by and saw the work crews working to transform the building. Well, my feelings changed quickly as I visited the parking lot once more were the new pirate building has arrived. Crossbones on the top of the entrance, a ship themed walk way and a sinister paint theme has made me very curious to find out what lies waiting inside. The main sign at the entrance has wooden planks and ship cannons sticking out of the body of the sign. Maybe as a warning of eminent family pirate entertainment or maybe a great big hello to Pirate Voyage. Could be both. We will find out soon enough. Tickets are on sale(or should I say, SAIL) now. I will take the family back to the building that once housed our Dixie memories and have a Pirate, swashbucklers good time. Sure R excited to be going aboard this new adventure.

Sunday, May 8th, 2011 on Mother's Day. I went to the Myrtle Beach State Park located on the South end of Myrtle Beach. The drive in was absolutely beautiful. The trees lined the road, moss hanging from the tree limbs, and the smell of the flowers drifting through the air. It was only $5.00 per person for an "All Day Pass". The park has several places to have a cook out, play grounds nestled in the trees and covered buildings for parties. They added wooden walk ways for easy access to the beach and of course the pier and store is there for added convenience. It was a warm spring day, the sun was shining, and gentle breezes were blowing. We spent several hours there relaxing and watching the kids play in the sand. The State Park is a wonderful place to spend a day with family and friends, with lots of parking, a place to rinse the sand and salt off, and easy access from HWY 17, I highly recommend going if you have a chance.

On Sunday evening, my family and I had an opportunity to go to the Carolina Opry. We had a wonderful time enjoying all kinds of music from country, rock, bluegrass and gospel. The dancers were amazing and we were especially impressed by the four male tap dancers that called themselves "All That". They were awesome! It was a great show for everybody and I highly recommend it for when you and your family come to stay at Sea Watch Resort.

One of the best restaurants located on the Grand Strand is Miyabi Kyoto which is located just a short distance from Sea Watch Resort on Restaurant Row in the Northern part of the Myrtle Beach area. You will be greeted by their very nice and polite staff and you will be stunned by their gorgeous decor. They offer an Early Bird special that gives you plenty of choices and plenty of great food. Miyabi's is known for their famous Steak and Chicken, Steak and Shrimp, and Chicken and Shrimp entrees. The entrees also come with wonderful side dishes. To start you off they give you a soup, salad, and a shrimp appetizer. Miyabi's is a great place to bring the family or to get a few friends together for dinner. The food is cooked right in front of you as their talented chef's use their cooking skills to amaze you as they prepare you meal. It is fun for all ages! I would suggest that you RSVP because the food is just that wonderful. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Just call 843-449-9294 for a spectacular dinner!

Would you enjoy seeing live sharks, stingrays, tropical fish, and staff scuba diving, then you should visit Ripley's Aquarium at Broadway at the Beach where you can experience this first hand. There are so many exhibits throughout the Aquarium. I am sure your family would enjoy it and if anyone gets hungry or thirsty, just stop by their food court. If you want to play outside, only a short drive from there you have Nascar Speed Park where you get to ride the go-carts and play in the arcade. Then if you want to have some outside water fun, just drive down the road to the Myrtle Waves Water Park. They have so many water slides to choose from and a wonderful play area for the smaller children. It is a great place to spend the day with your family.

On Saturday April 30, 2011 the 3rd Annual Dragon Boat Festival was held Grand Park across from Market Commons. There were 24 boats registered to compete. There were live music bands, various vendors from local area restaurants to beautiful paintings and gorgeous jewelry. The sun was shinning and it was about 80 degrees. It was a beautiful spring day. People were walking their dogs and kids were playing on the blow up slides. As spectators watched the last race; it was very close. All four of the finalist were neck and neck at the end. After the Dragon Boat races were over they got the Jet Ski’s out with the banana boats to take the kids for a ride around the pond
After spending some time walking around and looking at all the vendors, watching the races, and soaking up the sun, we decided to walk across street to Market Commons to do a little shopping. We even stopped at one of the restaurants and sat at their outdoor seating area. The food and atmosphere was absolutely fabulous. Market Commons always has something fun going on and I never get tired of going because it is different every weekend. If you get a chance to visit and bring the family I am sure you will enjoy it. It is a great way to spend the day. I look forward to seeing you at Market Commons this summer!

Last week I was delighted to take a hard hat tour of the new Pirate's Voyage. It was a great experience for me to see how Dixie Stampede was transformed into the new Pirate's Voyage. As I entered the building on the top level I could see all the constructions crews working very hard to get things completed. The inside of the building has totally changed. Some of the crews were working on the tables and chairs where all the guests will sit while others were working on the pirate's ship that will lay is the new lagoon. The lagoon will be 15 ft deep and hold 750,000 gallons of water. The new dinner show will still have horses in the acts, however now they have added in ducks and seals. I am very excited to see the show when it opens this June. If it is a show that you would like to see, you can call 1-800-433-4401 for tickets and information.
